Little Beauties were a series of ponies which came in two sizes. They were brightly coloured and had moulded clothing and brushable hair. They are marked "'Copyright MT 1988'.
Jana's is the only picure I have (from the Identified Toys section). Does anyone know anything more about these horses or have any images I can use to create a section for them?

I have a scanned backcard for the ones with clothes... somewhere. I'm really interested in the carousel ones... that's the ones I had growing up.
-
I've managed to get a lot more than those now, plus a MIB carousel one and some twins. I will try and take some nice pics of them for you pronto :)
-
Thanks Zuse & Zap18, that would be great!

I think that we decided that the carousel ones were Little Pretties as well, even though they weren't wearing outfits.
-
I've gotten pics taken of most of them now and will be emailing you in the next few days with them. Be on the look out!
-
I have a bunch of the carousel ones. I'll try to take pics tomorrow.
-
Hi zap18 & Eilonwe, any and all pictures will be greatfuly received!
I place thanks on each page I use other peoples images on so let me know if there is a link you would like me to add to your name too.
-
I thought I'd post these here in case anyone was interested in seeing them early. :D I have six different ones. I'd love to know if they have names or if there are more. I picked these up here and there back when I was collecting MLPs more. Some have haircuts, but others still have their long hair.

I love this sea-themed one. I wish I had one in better shape!
This night/celestial design is my favorite.
-
I have the sea-themed blue one and the yellow one. I think one was my sister's actually. I was usually good at keeping accessories to my toys but I seem to have lost the base? I could have sworn they came with them...
-
Oooh, Eilonwe, you have the white carousel one! That is the one I am missing! She is gorgeous!
You better look out! Jeanette, and now the white carousel LB... don't tell me where you live, lol. I'd have to invest in a catsuit and a goodie bag ;D
I have one of the carousel stands remaining, which will hopefully help out when the page for them gets up. Here's a preview of the pics I have:
http://s715.photobucket.com/albums/ww156/zap18/Myphotos/Little%20Beauties/
I love me some Little Beauties.
-
Oh my gosh... I had sworn for years that the backcard had a picture of the carousel on it... and it does! I didn't imagine it! (I think I thought it was specific to the carousel horses and not all of them with the styling gimmick, but oh well).
I knew I couldn't have imagined the base since they have a hole (I knew they were carousel horses after all)... it's even the color I remember.
I think I was somewhere between 4 and 5 when I got this... amazing how much I remembered from that young (mom would throw out all the wrappers, of course).
Seriously, I can't believe how good my memory was of something from 20 years ago when I was that young...
Don't like the fashion ones, though. A bit too "Charlie the Unicorn" looking for my tastes.
-
Ooo, fab pics! I have the safari one with blue hair in my childhood toy collection. And I had some of the minis, but might have sold them.
I like these two:
http://s715.photobucket.com/albums/ww156/zap18/Myphotos/Little%20Beauties/?action=view¤t=DSC07187.jpg
http://s715.photobucket.com/albums/ww156/zap18/Myphotos/Little%20Beauties/?action=view¤t=DSC07212.jpg
I'll have to keep an eye out for them. And an upgrade for my sea-themed carousel one.
On one hand, it's really cool to see the carded one and based on the artwork, I think I have them all. But on the other hand, I'm disappointed they don't have names!
-
I've just uploaded the Little Beauties pages:
http://ghostofthedoll.co.uk/Toys_LittleBeauties.htm
Let me know if I've made any obvious mistakes!
-
The pony listed as "Blue Pose 2" in the Carrousel section is really more of a green shade. Like seafoam green, but darker.
-
I think my blue pony (sea theme one) has yellow hair? Maybe it was blue. But for some reason I was thinking it was yellow. I think I only have a photo of the yellow one, though, from when I was asking on the Arena. The blue one's hair is a bit thinner/sparse.
Also, I am VAGUELY remembering that accessory that came with the Carousel ones. I remember back when I was small I could never figure out what it was supposed to attach to? I think that's why I was so convinced I needed the playset. I was convinced it attached to that somehow. But I don't remember the accessories beyond the first day I had the toys (which I think I got at my grandma's house). Maybe she was super vigilant and since I was so young kept them... I think I'd recently swallowed a piece of money or something. :-D
Is the accessory a parrot/bird? That's what it looks like to me (albeit all one color).
-
The original set packaging says they all came with hair clips, could it be a clip?
-
It's not a clip (barrette). I remember now. One of my horses (probably the yellow one with pink hair and pink rose decorations) came with a "bunch" of flowers/roses. It was light pink and just the molded plastic (no painted decorations/detail). On the back there was just a peg. Like it was supposed to be stuck into something? But I don't think there was a hole anywhere on the base or pole of the stand? I think it really frustrated/mystified me. Then again, I was like 5. :-P
-
Yay for the Little Beauties section! You are so good at organizing out these pictures of toy lines into something useable! I mean really... it looks fantastic.
A few little things that I notice that are off though (things you couldn't possibly have been expected to know since you have never held the things, lol):
- The two horses you have as nite star are actually different molds. So, not both Nite Star, and I have sometimes wondered if they are going to materialize into a "Flapper" series. So far though, just the two, and not different enough to be a new series. Plus, there is a micro with a boa, which seems to place them in the main series.
- the thing in the picture with the brush is a blue parrot hair clip. I do vaguely remember a bouquet of flowers though too, zuse- maybe with the other series.
- according to the art work on the front of the box, there are only going to be the six carrousel horses, and it actually seems pretty accurate. The only thing it doesn't account for is the hair color variants that pop up. I've seen one other than is listed, but it was on one of the blue ones and I have trouble remembering which. They probably all have one, like the molded clothes horses. Other than that though, the box seems accurate.
- *hangs head in shame* I don't personally care about credit, but the MIB pics that feature lovely tearing over the horses are mine. I only bring that up as a pardon to SparkyGemini for their bad shape, lol.
So, who else thinks it is weird they put the ballerina in a shower? And no carrousel ponies on the carrousel?
-
Ha, you're right. I don't understand the playset photos either!
As for the Carrousel accessories. I only ever owned two Carrousel horses and I received them brand new. (My sister and I each picked one and opened it). I have custody of them now, haha. :-D But the stands are long gone. I might still have the brushes and accessories. But I'm pretty sure it was mine (the yellow one) that came with the pink bouquet. And it wasn't a hair clip... it had a peg or something on the back to attach to what I assumed was a playset or something? I don't remember what the blue-green sea pony came with.
I'm not sure if the light pink/dark pink hair is a variation? Isn't pink hair just prone to fading (like with MLP)?
-
I can't say on the accessories, lol. I only know that I looked at my MIB one (the one pictured) and it's a parrot. Which is about as sensical as the ballerina in the shower. Why a carrousel pony needs a parrot eludes me.
On the hair color issue, I'm pretty sure they all come in two hair colors (I've never seen more than two hair colors on any one horse, and a second hair color has popped up on a great number of them). In some cases the two hair color differences are more dramatic, like with my purple explorer molded clothes horse with the blue hair and brown hair. In some cases, like with the bride, I think it really is a light pink versus dark pink difference. My understanding is that light pink fades to white, like with MLP, but the darker pink does not.
-
I was poking through my file of random toy images I've saved and came across these:
I do not know where they came from. *Possibly* eBay, but perhaps another forum. Do NOT credit them to me. I do not own them. I hope we find out who does! For some reason I didn't rename the files to include the person's username or anything so it's a mystery for now. :( They were saved in May 2009. I'm bummed that the person didn't take pictures of the back of the box!
Is Sunstreak the actual name of one of the ponies... or are they referring to a sun-activated hair color change gimmick?

I know they are rather large files. Let me know if I need to resize them for the forum!
-
Heehee, I've been avoiding this post now because... I WANT THOSE!! *grumble grumble*
Alright :P Out of my system.
The thread on the arena has the purple explorer LB with the safari outfit with a new hair color- pink. This is in addition to the blue haired one and the brown-haired one I have. So...
My theory that they only have two hair variants each.. dead. Finished.
There's no telling now :P
Oh, the mystery! How it teases me!
Aaaand, teaser: a picture of my new blue light up one coming soon!
-
Aww!
Yeah, I was so glad the page got made! That's why I posted it on the Arena (I think asking about them was one of the first posts I made on the Arena... part of the reason I joined!) The Arena is jam packed with horse/pony toy collectors (not just MLP). And they're poorly labelled and obscure so most people don't know what they have (same with lots of other "fakies"). But sometimes it's fun to find "fakies" a home with someone that will love them!
Maybe we'll see some more interesting things now that Ghost of the Doll has made them official. :)
-
Thanks for posting the images you found Zuse. I came across an ebay sale (no images as it was from May 2009) and it listed all the items you have images for so I assume it was theirs (seller buford_bargain_hunter, buyer den268).

Yeah, I found what you were talking about. Was too lazy to Google it earlier. :-P It WAS eBay. The seller cracks me up (I guess there wasn't a picture of the Bridal Shop):
**ULTRA RARE** Little Little Beauties Play Sets In Box
For your consideration are four play sets from the Little Little Beauties by Multi Toys Corp. 1990. These playsets were Multi Toys answer to the miniture playset craze of the mid to late 80's. Just getting under the wire of the craze, these were released near Christmas 1990 and found a small following until the craze died a few months later. The sets are in thier original boxes, and are in near mint condition for nearly 20 yearold toys! You get: Bridal Shoppe High School Coutry Club Beauty Academy If you are a true collector, you know that these are RARER than RARE and hard to find... as of listing not even ONE set was listed on eBay or had been listed in the last month! The last time they were listed a single set sold for over $80!! My lost is your gain! Reserve is less than $10 each! Get them now before I change my mind and put them back away for safe keeping for the next 20 years!
-
That's why I posted it on the Arena (I think asking about them was one of the first posts I made on the Arena... part of the reason I joined!) The Arena is jam packed with horse/pony toy collectors (not just MLP).
I actually joined the arena to buy my MOC Little Beauty out of the classifieds!
I tracked down the buyer off ebay and they are actually a huge seller of 80s toys at ridiculous BIN prices. I contacted them and asked if they had any Little Beauties. They said they don't :(
-
Just like I thought. all I had remembered being around the house, and all but one of them is pictured... I have the purple beach twin that's not pictured.
Found out all the small ones I had around, match up with all the ones pictured o.O And have all the carousels pictured. I remember having the carousel playset as a child! Didn't remember it went with these horses O.o
The things you learn! X D

Here she is!!! My beautiful new light up one!!
-
Yay! Does it still work?
-
Not exactly :) My other one does though!
-
Neat. I'm guessing there's a battery trapped in there that you can't change?
-
I use to have some of the light up ones too . I should have kept them once the battery or light up part breaks there is no way to fix it.
-

What colors were they?
And to fix them, I guess we need to get in touch with the kids doing surgery on Kitty Kitty Kittens :P Once they get over the contaminated water, that is. Don't want my beauties worked on by kids too deep into their cups.
-
I think one was the purple ballerina one. sorry I have no photos.
-
(http://i176.photobucket.com/albums/w190/thezuse/Ghost%20of%20the%20Doll/carousel1.jpg)
Mine has yellow hair (I think it used to be less faded). Unfortunately it's shedding pretty badly and the hair is in terrible shape. I have no idea why the yellow horse with pink hair fared so much better!?!
-
It's still beautiful :)
I have a big update on these ladies coming up! I have been really really busy... no seriously, really busy. But soon... they will be revealed!!!!
My preciouses :P
-
I've just updated the Little Beauties pages with a few extra images (Light-Up, Carousel & Playsets). I've also added an Unknown page as there is one pony which doesn't fit in anywhere.
http://www.ghostofthedoll.co.uk/Toys_LittleBeauties.htm

Those new light ups are... fantastic.
Does it seem like there is a light up to correlate with the other themes of ponies? Like, a carousel one, a bride, a boa one, and just an 80s outfit-ish one? There is also another light up out there (a white one) but I need to relook into it to see its outfit again.
-
Here are some that never got posted here (from the MLP Arena):

I just got this one today! The white carousel with BLUE hair!
Making a third hair color for the white one. :o
-
Woo hoo! You lucky duck :) She's gorgeous!
-
Did you ever get a white one? I can't remember.
-
Nice find I will have to keep an eye out for these at the flea market on Sunday.
-
Yeah, I have a white one now, with the purple hair. Except for the different hair colors, my carousels should be complete. I hadn't seen this variant before though, so it's really cool :)
-
I just remembered this but with the unknown one I had her, but the body was pink and the dress was yellow sadly I do not have any photos nor do I have her any more.

The carousel:

And now, some prototypes I found on ebay! I contacted the seller and she said they were from a family friend's house she was cleaning out, and that family friend did indeed work for a toy company in the 80s/90s! They are fantastic!
I think the earliest I have from the development stage (I think it is a hair grow prototype):

More advanced hair grow prototypes (I've never seen a manufactured hair grow, so these might never have made it beyond prototypes, though the ones on the backcard would be more advanced versions if they are still out there):

That is insane. I still can't believe you found that lot. What was the odds that the one person in the world that would completely appreciate them as being prototypes. It boggles the mind.
And now to hurt your head: this means that person might have worked on the puppies too...
-
Ok, HUGE update, long time coming :)
Thank you SO much Jana for all your images. It must have taken ages! I've added in your images and re-named the Unknown page to Other to accommodate the prototype images as well.
It's fascinating to see all the Growing Hair prototypes. You can see how the mechanism would have worked, and it's probably the closest we're going to get to seeing the Growing Hair ponies as the appear to be either ultra rare, or unproduced.
-
Thanks zap I had no idea prototypes existed for these toys Nice find !
-
Wow... those prototypes are pretty cool! :)
I have two of the twins... you only have one on your page, but I have both of them!

Hello. I have just located a Special Edition Set of Little Little Beauties and listed them at auction. I have posted a link in the For Sale area, is it acceptable to post the link here as well? Maybe the images could be helpful to others. Thanks for any help.
-
Awesome! I'll post a few of the images from your eBay here so people can see them! :) Let me know if that isn't okay and I'll take them down! :)

I have a question does any one know if the drive in set pictured on the back of the box shown here ever came out ?
-
I've always wondered what these toys were!! :)
