Title: [ID: Puppy Dog Tails] Dog with long tail
Post by: MissAliRae on Thursday 17 June 2010, 02:20 am
So this is a toy that I bought as a child and just found. I think its so cute, but can't find any information about it! I'm pretty sure the name had something to do with tails or fashion or something, but that could be completely wrong. I THINK I bought it from Toys 'R Us, but I can't be certain.  I am pretty sure that it was a series, because my neighbor/friend also got one, but it was a different dog.
The dogs came with a collar, name tag, and (I think) a brush for the tail. The name tag was put onto a little heart that went onto the collar. This dogs name was "Smudge." She was sold as a Rottweiler. I have the collar somewhere, but I have to go dig it up.
The bottom of the dog says 1997 and what looks like MIG ltd and says Made in China.

Size comparison with a Sprite Can ;)

Any help would be wonderful and much appreciated! :)

It's not a Sweetie Pup, they were made by Hasbro.

Puppy Dog Tails. What country are you from? I have a friend that collects these but we can't figure out if they were ever sold in the US.

I'm in the US. I would have bought this toy in Iowa, haha. And I know my friend bought one too, and I'm almost completely sure it was a different breed of dog.

And now I feel silly because I totally  looked through most of the ID'd threads and somehow missed that one. :| Sorry guys, I'm didn't mean to make you ID a toy twice!

But thanks so much! I knew it was something to do with tails! :)

I wonder if there are other ones shown elsewhere on the box. Maybe someone with an ebay account should message them.

YAY! FOUND IT! :D

I'm pretty sure I have found modern fakies of these puppies here in the Netherlands! I had been eyeing them in this dollar-type store for months and last week I finally bought one. They have adults sold single and two packs with an adult and a puppy. There are four different breeds. I coincedently bought the one most similar to the one in this thread but it's brown and has blue eyes. When I took it out of the package I was surprised to see a 1998 M... copyright on the bottom! ??? It is on the dogs foot though, not on it's belly (might be the adult/puppy difference). I've been trying to ID it and now I finally found this thread, awesome :) The one I found has to be a fakie of the official one above because the packaging is different and the quality not very high, and its being sold in store at this moment, but it has the 1998 M... copyright :D

As I said the store has four different breeds, there's also a poodle and a st bernard-like dog, the fourth one I found hard to tell, seemed like a husky/labrador mix or some kind of mastif XD
Earlier I did already find a pic somewhere online (don't remember where) that has what I thought would be the 'official' ones. It has the above pictured dog, the poodle and the st bernard-like dog!

I remember the poodle I saw in store to be in the same mold but grey instead of pink, I think the st bernard-like one has the same colours.

I'll take pics of the supposed fakies later this week (when I'll probably have bought some more next to the one I already have ;) )

Okay, I went to the shop today but didn't buy any more doggies than the one I already have. (May do so later.) I did take a good look at them though. The poodle is indeed grey with white instead of pink with white like the one in the above photo. The st bernard-like one looks quite similar to the one in the above photo but I don't know if it's exact. I also took a look at the mommy and baby sets and the puppies seem to be in almost exactly the same mold as the big ones, just smaller. (Neither the brown adult I bought nor her puppy is in the mold of the above black and tan dog, both have a raised paw.)

I've done some searching with the term Puppy Dog Tails MIG and I found some interesting links!

And last but definately NOT least :D

After taking a look at the last link: The brown dog I bought is the exact same as nr 6 Doberman!! They also have the family of two. The poodle and the poodle family are also the SAME as those in store at this moment! About the st bernard dog I'm not sure, I think the single sold one is actually the puppy of the family set, which is quite strange as the other singles in the store are adults.
The exact similarity makes me wonder if they are actually fakies or maybe just 'leftovers' in a new packaging? O_O
The dog that I earlier described as husky/labrador mix or mastif is not on the site but it does have the V-shape printed on it's head as the collie has.

This is so cool!
