Hello,

I'm trying to find out what this toy is called or if anyone knows more about it? I dont know much except another version of it has a purple clam shell. There's a picture inside the lid of the clam which I always thought of as being a mirror?

Any help would be great. This is the only photo I could find on the web but it had absolutely no details.

Thankyou!

It's by Tyco (The Little Mermaid). 1993ish, I think?

There's Merbabysitter Ariel that had the two babies and then there were the extra sets.

According to the caption on flickr the one you posted is a play time set and there is also a third sleepy time set.

Looking for baby mermaid doll

Hey!

In the 1990s, I used to have that baby doll to play with my mermaid barbies.
This one, I remember from the ad, was meant to be in a big pink shell and get out of it by itself once plunged into water. i think it could swim, its arms could rotate.

size was that of a baby for a barbie doll. i'm not sure but it might have been from a collection by tyco, released when they created their babysitter Ariel (the one with 2 purple-tailed babies). my baby looked quite like them, painted blond hair but not transformable into a human baby, articulation at the top of the tail so it could sit. it was pink-tailed. same size as that of Ariel.

i was sure it was a tyco doll but as i can't find it anywhere i was wondering whether one of you guys had one in store with its ID so i could optimise my chances of finding it...

btw, i had another mermaid doll but before describing it i'd like you to tell me if it's possible to find the cheap kind of dolls you could find in supermarkets in the 1990s...

thank you!!

:D

It was kind of a coincidence I found it for that other person that was seraching - and you totally knew what it was but tracking down pictures is really hard. A lot of stuff only pops up on eBay every once in awhile.

It can happen. We have one member here that loves mermaid dolls of all kinds (well, several members, actually). If you can get a good enough description and where you bought it (time period) maybe we can dig into our memories and try to remember. Sometimes drawing a picture of it helps as well (or finding a picture of a similar one on the internet). :)

I think we need to use the same process they use to draw criminal suspects, but for toys.  :D

Please do put up the cheapie mermaid! I'd love to see/hear about her, even if we can't ID her.

I've merged these two topics as they have both been identified as the same toy.
