1970's Doll that played records
« on: Thursday 02 September 2010, 01:21 am »
I do not have much to go on, but here it is...my mom received a doll in the mid-1970's for christmas.  It was plastic, about 18-21" high, blond hair and it played records.  I think she came in a yellow dress.  In the back of the doll you put in the small clear plastic records and they played christmas carols.  I have the records, but there is no information on them.  They are only about 2.5 to 3 inches in diameter.  Any ideas on the doll ???

I had a doll who sounds like the one you're describing. I got mine in the mid-eighties, though. She was a Zapf Creation doll and she could also walk. She wasn't a baby doll, she looked as though she was older - I always thought she looked around 7 or 8 years old!

I also had a baby doll with blonde hair who played records. I got her in Spain and can't remember much about her.

I had a friend who also had a doll who played records, but I have no info on her.

Sorry, I'm not much help!  ::)

It wasn't a Crissy doll.  Apparently you inserted the records inside the doll to play them.  My mom thinks the doll looked to be about 5yrs old.

Thank you for the responses though.   :D

Was it similar to this doll:

This is Patty Cake Sings.  She's in a box around here somewhere so I could dig her out for more information.  She has a place for small plastic records in her back, and I know I had at least two records in different colors though one has gone missing and I don't know if there were any Christmas carols.  IIRC the records played when you pressed her hands together.  She would probably be from the late 70s.

No it isn't the patty cake doll.  Thank you for trying though.

Perhaps this doll marked Remco. I think back then that company was also called Azrak-Hamway International (AHI) so try searching that too?

So, maybe the singing Mimi doll circa 1970s (1973?) http://www.bigredtoybox.com/cgi-bin/toynfo.pl?mimiindex They say it's about the size of a Chrissy doll which is 18".

This one is marked 1978? Would that be the correct date?

She has an International Them - "Teach the World to Sing."

It would really help if you could tell us where are you (or your mom) from... That record mechanism reminds me some 70's dolls from Spain...
Desperately looking for:

There is a doll in the 2nd commercial on this video. Part of the Chatty doll line. Looks like 70's or earlier because the Brady Bunch Kid is in it.
Check out the video. I believe it could be Charming Chatty which starts at 1:07

I sent her a PM regarding the video. Here is another video of the same doll. No mention of Christmas records though. But I guess some could have been purchased separetly. However, seems like the right height, decade, and hair color (found pics of her with blonde and brunette hair). But I don't think her dress is yellow. Hmmmmm.
