Brush-a-Loves :: Li'l Brush-a-Loves

"Beautiful Brush-a-Loves and Li'l Brush-a-Loves need the loving care of little girls to keep them stay their best. Little girls will love using the Brush-a-Loves special brush-in-tail to brush, comb and style each of these sweetly scented little cuties!"

Brush-a-Loves were produced by AmToy then Tyco in the US and Matchbox in UK/Euro from 1987-89. They were plush bears about 10 inches high with brushes on the ends of their tails, a mirror attached to their right paw and a scented powder puff on their left. Alongside them came Li'l Brush-a-Loves, scented dog-like creatures with a loop on their bellies so they could be worn like a bracelet, and a brush on the end of their tails. There were also Kiss-a-Loves, which were small flocked plastic versions of the Brush-a-Loves with a furry tail with a brush on the end.

Li'l Brush-a-Loves

Li'l Brush-a-Loves were dog-like creatures with furry bodies and plastic faces and were 8 to 10 inches long (excluding tail). They had a furry elasticated loop under their bellies so you could wear them like a bracelet and a long furry tail with a brush on the end.

The UK/Euro exclusive version was slightly shorter in the body than the US version, had molded flowers on their heads, and also had less variation of colours in their fur. There were six US and six UK/Euro Li'l Brush-a-Loves produced.

US Release

The earlier release were by AmToy, and they may also have been released by Tyco in the US in 1989. They were also sold in UK/Euro by Matchbox/AmToy.

Sugar Blossom Twinkle Berry

UK/Euro Release

I have so far found six different UK Li'l Brush-a-Loves, but have no information on their names (which they may not have had). These were not sold in US. Their labels are marked with both AmToy and Matchbox, 1989.

Packaging

The UK/Euro packaging had multiple langauges and were marked Matchbox. I've not come across the packaging for the UK/Euro exclusive versions yet, or the US version.
