Snugglebumms :: Adults

"Shake me - I giggle!"

SnuggleBumms were produced by Playskool in 1984 and MB from 1985. They were a series of funny, squat little characters with long furry backs for brushing. Baby Snugglebumms giggled when shook, and the adults lit up when hugged. There were also pets, bugs, miniatures and puzzles.

They were sold in the UK and other parts of Europe under varying names (none of which really mean anything!):

  • UK, US & Italy: SnuggleBumms
  • France: Les Bum-Bum
  • Germany: Knuffelbunt
  • Holland: TroelieWoelies

Adults

"Hug me - I glow!"

Adult Snugglebumms had plastic bodies and brushable fur hair like the babies, but were larger. Mama and Papa lit up when "hugged", rather than giggling when shook. They were were about 5-1/2 inches high. Princess Snugglina had long rooted hair and was slightly smaller than Mama and Papa. She didn't light-up or giggle. There were 3 different adults produced, plus I have found a possible variation of Mama Brightly who has brighter hair and a purple mouth and heart. Other than that I know nothing about her.

Mama Brightly and Papa  Gently

Mama and Papa came with a brush and storybook each. Mama also came with headwear but Papa did not.

Momma Brightly ~ "A soft snuggle makes Momma glow! Her gentle light makes her a perfect bedtime pal for little ones. She comes with a pretty, flower decorated hair ribbon for hours of hair-combing fun. Includes brush and story booklet."

Papa Gently ~ "Give him a hug and watch him shine with love! Take him along to bed. His gentle glow is a comfort when the lights go out. He comes with his own brush and story booklet."

Mama Brightly Papa Gently Mama Brightly Variation?

Princess Snugglelina

"Please brush my lovely long hair!"

Princess Snugglelina was called Bumelina in France, Knuffleina in Germany and Folletina in Italy. She came with a crown, skirt, pink brush and storybook.

Publicity

Snuggleina's crown is different in this publicity shot, which looks just like the crown on her packaging. I wonder why it was changed before production?
