Sweet Secrets :: Babies

"An adorable transformable world!"

Sweet Secrets were produced by Galoob from 1985 into the mid 1990's. Later on, a few of Galoob's dolls and playsets were released Blue Box. They started off as a series of lockets which transformed into dolls and animals, and as they grew in popularity Sweet Secrets became more diverse, even expanded into playsets.

They were sold in the US, UK and other parts of Europe, and I currently know of one name variation:

  • UK & US: Sweet Secret
  • Italy: Dolci Segreti

Locket-Bye Babies

There were six Locket-Bye Babies produced. The set consisted of a larger gem which opened up into a little playset, topped with a smaller gem which transformed into a baby. All the dolls had red or blue heart gems, with different coloured bodies.

The babies themselves don’t appear to have had names, and packaging images have different babies pictured on the front to the back so it is hard to know which baby came with which set. I’ve made a list of all the babies found for comparison further down.

Going Strolling

"A lovely locket... becomes a baby doll and a roll-along stroller!"

This set came with a pink baby with either a blue or red heart.

High There

"A lovely locket... becomes a baby doll and a high chair!"

This set came with a yellow baby with a red heart, confirmed by the inner packaging image.

Nite'Nite Baby

"A lovely locket... becomes a baby doll and a beddy-bye bassinette!"

This set came with a blue baby with a red heart.

Play With Me

"A lovely locket... becomes a baby doll and a play-time play pen!"

This playset was produced with the colours the opposite way around from its publicity and packaging images. This set came with a pink baby with a blue heart.

Pony Ride

"A lovely locket... becomes a baby doll and a ride-along rocking horse!"

This set came with a pink baby with a blue heart, confirmed by the inner packaging image.

Play With Me

"A lovely locket... becomes a baby doll and a push 'n play swing!"

This set came with a blue baby with a red heart.

Twin Nursery

"A pretty play phone... becomes a twin-baby nursery! Two dazzling gems... become twin dazzling baby dolls!"

This playset included two identical pink babies with blue heart gems. The set also came with a tiny bunny, car, clock, and three blocks, plus two plates and two bottles. There was also a twin high chair/stroller.

The Babies

It looks like Going Strolling and Pony Ride came with the same baby, and Nite'Nite Baby and Swing me also came with the same baby. Play With Me appeares to be the same baby as the Twin babies.

Play With Me Pony Ride Swing Me

I've also found a few images of the pink baby with a blue heart and yellow flower. Could it just be age discolouring the plastic?
