[1 of 2 ID-ed] Did I imagine these Barbies...?
« on: Wednesday 18 August 2010, 02:30 pm »
Ok, I know I didn't really, as I have a photo of one of them and can clearly remember the other - but I can't find info ANYWHERE  :o!!!! ???????????????

ID: Costume Ball Barbie

1) A Barbie doll, from around 1987-1991. She had on the most elaborate, fancy pink dress and there was some sort of eye mask attached (the kind you'd wear to a masquerade ball). It was for the child (or adult!) to wear and was also pink, glittery and shaped like a butterfly.
Tracking down this doll is giving me the biggest headache, as I haven't seen her or found info anywhere, but I'd love to have her in my collection again.

2) It gets difficult here. A Barbie-type doll, I was under the impression she was an official Barbie friend, but again, I can't find info on her. She was possibly called Kirsty, she had brown/auburn hair, possibly crimped or wavy, and dimples in her cheeks. her arms were straight (not bent at the elbow) and she looked as though she could have belonged in the Barbie line (she wasn't made of cheap plastic).
Any info would be fantastic!

Thanks xxxx  ::) XXXXXX

The first one with the mask is Costume Ball Barbie from 1990.

If the picture you have is of the second one, then you should post it. I have a book called "Collector's Guide to 1990s Barbie Dolls" and I dont see any doll with dimples, but they could just be very faint in the pictures I am looking at, were they very faint dimples? Do you know what she came wearing?

The Remco 1992 Babysitters Club Kristy doll has tiny dimples, dark wavy hair and straight arms. Was your doll Skipper-sized?

That's her, Eden Eye!!!! Costume Ball Barbie!!!!  ;D Thanks SO much!!!!

The other doll is Barbie-sized (like, almost exactly). Sadly, I don't have a photo of her. Her dimples were quite obvious/deep (like mine!) and she was grinning - teeth showing, and eyes kind of 'slit', because she was smiling, if you get what I mean?????

I know my Kenner Miss America doll had insanely deep dimples (or so I remember - it's hard to see on the eBay pictures). But those have bent arms. :-\
Check out my Vintage Littlest Pet Shop Guide!

Hey, check out Bing Rewards. I've earned several $5 Amazon gift cards using it. :)

Nope, not a Miss America doll....

It's so hard to describe her.

BUT.... I've remembered her outfit.

She was wearing a pink all-in-one trouser suit. It was light pink, with quite odd-shaped, baggy pants and the top part was either strapless or halterneck. It tied at the waist with a purple ribbon.
She came with a little clutch bag.
Her hair was definitely crimped.

Also, I'm in the UK, so she may not have been available in the USA.

Was the second doll by any chance Jazzie's (Barbie's cousin) friend, Chelsea? I could only find a pic of her face online.

No, not Jazzie's cousin but thanks anyway.

She's definitely a Fashion Corner doll.

I remember what she was wearing, too - a pink all-in-one trouser suit with a halterneck. The top was tied in place with a purple ribbon and there was a ribbon around the waistband too. She was carrying a clutch bag.

I can't find the same auction now. I had been looking at Fashion Corner dolls for half an hour trying to find yours and I don't remember how exactly I got that one searched.
