Vintage Knickerbocker turtle in a bonnet?
« on: Thursday 27 December 2012, 10:23 pm »
Today for the first time in a long while, I went thrifting and I came across this plush turtle. She was just too cute to leave behind so of course I grabbed her right away!

Google fetches me this image and tells me it's by Knickerbocker.

Does anyone else have any more info on these? I'm guessing early '80s based on the eyes but that's all I've got.

Calling all teddy experts! Please help me find my Cuddle Bear!

I saw that exact turtle today in a thrift store for $2.  It's much bigger than I thought it would be.  Seems to be about 16-18 inches long and about 12 inches tall.  The tag said it is a Knickerbocker Animal of Distinction.

The first thing that popped into mind when I first saw the pictures you put up was Holly Hobbie because of the quilting.  I did some research, and Knickerbocker did do some Holly Hobbie dolls, but I don't think this relates to them.  If it was in proportion with the dolls, I'd say maybe.  But, I have 2 vintage Holly Hobbie dolls (recently bought Holly Hobbie Amy for 80 cents at a thrift store), and the size is way too big for the standard sized doll.

But, I do think it is probably from the 1970s instead of the 80s.  The quilting and the color palette seem to mesh more with the 70s.
