some of my ooak doll and ponies. :)
« on: Monday 27 September 2010, 03:46 am »
Here is a ooak MLP.  Her eyes are repainted, new rerooted hair, and I added more glitter designs to her body.  I call her Angel's Breath.

Here is a repainted Britney Spears doll.  Her hair is fragile since I made it out of sculpty clay.

Here is a reprinted Jem.

This is a Barbie repainted to look like Jem.  I redressed her and gave her to Anne Bryant who wrote the Jem theme song. :)

I repainted this one to look like a Barbie sized Synergy from Jem in human form (with human eyes like the Jem Synergy doll).

Since Halloween is coming up next month here is my Misfit's Halloween picture!

repainted dolls to look like Jem and the Holograms. :)

Here is a repainted he-man next to a normal one.

Here is another one.  I call her "Crying Rocker Chick".  I wish my camera took the picture better.  Oh well, she looks great in person!!! (I've added a new picture of her down below on 11/7/10)

Here are some of my Jem dolls.  It's just a sample of what I have. hehe

You have an amazing collection!!  I have been thinking about getting into rerooting and painting (touch ups and such) but have been too afraid!!  I need to get some bad condition and cheap dolls and ponys to try!  Do you know of a good website that explains the processes in detail?  I have found a few but they seem to contradict each other and it is obvious you do amazing work!!  I am also concerned b/c I can't draw so this could be interesting!!  :-)

For repainting dolls.  Find a really cheap doll that you aren't afraid to mess up.  Also find a doll that you like the shape of the eyes and the make up of.  Maybe try to copy the eyes but in your own style.

I'm not super good but I have my own style.  I've bought a really interesting dvd of an artist painting realistically on a doll.  It was fascinating!

I've even heard of some repainters that use a pencil to outline their eyes so they know where they are going to paint the shape of the eye.

I just buy cheap craft acrylic paints from a hobby/craft store.  The glossy paint that is purple on the "Crying Rocker Chick" doll is actually fabric paint (so is the eye shadow on the pony with white hair).  I like that it's glossy and you can layer the paint to the darkness you want.

Places like Dolly Hair is good to get your rerooting tool.  I suggest buying cheap hair from either the dollar store or even better is to go to a hair supply place that has hair waive.  Some of them can be really inexpensive and is best to practice with before you go buy the nice hair that is more money from Dolly Hair (though that hair is super!).

Thanks so much for that info!!  I will have to copy it and leave it out when I actually have time, and money to attempt this :-)  I will begin searching for something cheap and in rough shape this weekend!!!  This was a big help for getting started!  Do toy companies use acrylic paint for ponies and dolls as well?  Just wondering! :-)

Try looking for something where the head is going to come off easy and the head isn't huge.  The bigger the head, the longer rerooting will take and how much hair you'll need too!

I have no idea what toy companies use to paint on the toys!  That's something I'd be interested in figuring out too. :)

Do they make finer strands of hair for dolls? It's always struck me that doll hair is just simulated human hair. And when you think about the scale of a doll to a human, that's like having spaghetti noodles coming out of your head. :-P
