Lil Miss Singing Mermaid Discoloration
« on: Monday 13 February 2012, 04:31 pm »
I just bought this doll, and she has this odd discoloration on her trunk (not arms or head). It is on the front and back. Does anyone know what may have caused this? (The "singing wires" have been stripped from inside her head and the crown glued shut.)

a few things come to mind on this

1. plastic aging this can cause discoloration over time some MLP are also affected by this

2. internal mold sometimes if moisture is trapped inside it can grow mold

3. internal rust if there are metal parts that have rusted it may be the rust leaching through the plastic.

4. plastic cancer basically just the plastic breaking down and creating dark spots. i have this on some of my ponies it does not spread and is not contagious to other toys.

Thanks for the reply! I was wondering myself about it being mold, but it's all connected and that discoloration isn't in the arms or head. Very odd. :P

(Too lazy to move mine from display) but the body could be made of a different plastic than the arms/head.  Plastics react differently to extreme temperatures, sunlight, aging, etc.   I have an extra that has that dull tan look all over her skin evenly, though.  My guess is her vinyl faded due to high heat exposure.
