Sunshine Pony Gift Set - Lucky Ind. Co. Ltd. (1984)
« on: Tuesday 04 May 2010, 03:39 am »
The Sunshine Pony Gift Set. Another doll/pony combo playset that was made in the 80s, I assume to imitate MLP's Megan and Sundance. These were available in several different colors. Notice that the hair is YARN. I do not know the brand name. :(

There are lots of ponies in this mold, but if they don't have hair that  yarn-like then I *think* that those are just fakies of a fakie(?!?) Also, the real Sunshine Ponies have a painted saddle.

If there *are* ones with "regular" pony hair, I think they have eyes that are painted in the same way.

So, yeah, fakies have fakies, haha. :-[

So, I think some people collect these so if you have an actual "Sunshine Pony" now you know what you have. :)

Image from My Little Pony Collector that I enlarged

Scan I found online of a Big Lots store circular from November 1989 (somewhere in Alabama). Just in time for Christmas! I guess that they were around for awhile!

Neat! It's like they tried to fit My Little Pony, Strawberry Shortcake, and Rainbow Brite all into one!

It does kind of have a SSC Pony look to it, doesn't it? Or even Precious Moments, maybe? Not really very MLP at all. More of a blend of everything!

I think I see a bit of Care Bears influence in the packaging (the sun in the corner).

This set makes me happy. It is a perfect "girl toy" of the 80s. It embodies everything that made toys of that "era" great (fakie or not!) :)

I had some of these in the past. They are quite strange my little pony fakies. Some of the evil looking ones... there are so many different shades with saddle fully coloured outline, etc... some glow... different symbols, yarn hair, normal hair.

Actually, I think you're thinking of the fakes of these! :-X (Some were also called Sunshine Pony, I think... I guess it was a hard name to maintain copyright for, haha).

But, yeah... I *think* that these original ones are actually fairly good quality!

It's like they ripped off My Little Pony, then gave it Precious Moments eyes and Rainbow Brite Hair! And a Strawberry Shortcake doll. With a Care Bears color scheme...

I'm actually reminded a lot of the modern SSC ponies.

I *think* I have one of these. Possibly.

He's blue all over, blue body, blue mane and tail made of wool and blue saddle thing. Anyone know anything about him?

Edit: I mean the same shade of blue all over.
