He was the last of five known children born to <a href=\"https:\/\/ghostofthedoll.co.uk\/tracingghosts\/my_family_tree\/maternal-grandfather-mayhew-tree\/keech-thomas\/\"><strong>Thomas KEECH<\/strong><\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/ghostofthedoll.co.uk\/tracingghosts\/my_family_tree\/maternal-grandfather-mayhew-tree\/keech-thomas\/\"><strong>Mary BURRIDGE<\/strong><\/a>, a lacemaker. There is another family by the name Keech in my tree, which so far are unrelated.<\/p>\n<p>My 3rd great grandmother <strong>Joannah COTTON<\/strong> was born <strong>1822<\/strong> in Turvey, Bedfordshire. She was the fifth of eight children born to <a href=\"https:\/\/ghostofthedoll.co.uk\/tracingghosts\/my_family_tree\/maternal-grandfather-mayhew-tree\/cotton-reuben\/\"><strong>Reuben COTTON<\/strong><\/a>, an agricultural labourer, and <a href=\"https:\/\/ghostofthedoll.co.uk\/tracingghosts\/my_family_tree\/maternal-grandfather-mayhew-tree\/cotton-reuben\/\"><strong>Rachel STOCK<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Nine years prior to Joannah and James&#8217;s marriage, Joannah gave birth to a child from an unknown relationship (unmarried). She was about 20.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\"><strong>Henry Cotton<\/strong> (1842) &#8211; agricultural labourer<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>James<\/strong> and <strong>Joannah<\/strong> married on 3rd Aug <strong>1851<\/strong> in Turvey when they were 21 and 29, and had six children together (all born in Turvey). My 2nd great grandmother <strong>Eliza<\/strong> was their first. James worked as a master tailor and Joannah was a lacemaker, a career all five of their daughters also followed.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><em><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\"><strong>Eliza Keech<\/strong> (3 Feb 1852 &#8211; 21 Apr 1841) &#8211; married <strong>Joseph James Cowley<\/strong> 1881; lacemaker<\/span><\/em><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\"><strong>Joannah Keech<\/strong> (1854 &#8211; 1921) &#8211; married<strong> John Law<\/strong> 1854<em> (a bricklayer&#8217;s labourer)<\/em>; lacemaker<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\"><strong>Mary Ann Keech<\/strong> (1857) &#8211; married <strong>Frederick Jones<\/strong> 1880 (a brewer&#8217;s labourer); lacemaker<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\"><strong>Emma Keech<\/strong> (16 Feb 1860 &#8211; 1945) &#8211; married <strong>James Sargent<\/strong> 1878 (a labourer); lacemaker<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\"><strong>James William Keech<\/strong> (1863 &#8211; 1923) &#8211; married <strong>Annie Hardwick<\/strong> 1887; coachman and groom<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\"><strong>Jane Keech<\/strong> (26 Aug 1865 &#8211; 1936) &#8211; married <strong>Henry Spyer<\/strong> 1887 (a groom); lacemaker<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The family lived on Mill Green\/Mill Lane right next the River Great Ouse to the west and the corn mill at the end of the road.
