The flat was rented from one of two spinster sisters called LEE, one of which had been a Botanist. It suddenly dawned one me not too long ago that I had never taken the time to read the inscriptions properly before, and being both artist and genealogist, thought it would make a really interesting project to photograph each bench and do a little research into each person named.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-embedded-content\" data-secret=\"H1ksVP5Ybf\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/ghostofthedoll.co.uk\/tracingghosts\/memory_benches\/memory-benches\/\">Memory Benches<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><iframe class=\"wp-embedded-content\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts\" security=\"restricted\" style=\"position: absolute; clip: rect(1px, 1px, 1px, 1px);\" title=\"&#8220;Memory Benches&#8221; &#8212; Tracing Ghosts\" src=\"https:\/\/ghostofthedoll.co.uk\/tracingghosts\/memory_benches\/memory-benches\/embed\/#?secret=1mFVxbp134#?secret=H1ksVP5Ybf\" data-secret=\"H1ksVP5Ybf\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ghostofthedoll.co.uk\/tracingghosts\/southendwaterworks\/southend-waterworks-company\/\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>SOUTHEND WATERWORKS COMPANY HOUSES IN THUNDERSLEY, ESSEX<\/strong><\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p>There were three residential properties built in the early 1900\u2019s by Southend Waterworks Company in Thundersley, Essex, which were associated with the reservoir and two pumping stations. Using census, electoral and various other records I discovered the names of the first few occupants of these three properties and have traced their lives and family histories.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-embedded-content\" data-secret=\"IvW9GlbwEY\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/ghostofthedoll.co.uk\/tracingghosts\/southendwaterworks\/southend-waterworks-company\/\">Southend Waterworks Company Houses in Thundersley, Essex<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><iframe class=\"wp-embedded-content\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts\" security=\"restricted\" style=\"position: absolute; clip: rect(1px, 1px, 1px, 1px);\" title=\"&#8220;Southend Waterworks Company Houses in Thundersley, Essex&#8221; &#8212; Tracing Ghosts\" src=\"https:\/\/ghostofthedoll.co.uk\/tracingghosts\/southendwaterworks\/southend-waterworks-company\/embed\/#?secret=nC6kVXmfKP#?secret=IvW9GlbwEY\" data-secret=\"IvW9GlbwEY\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ghostofthedoll.co.uk\/tracingghosts\/war_memorials\/war-memorial-hadleigh-essex\/\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>HADLEIGH 1<sup>st<\/sup> WORLD WAR MEMORIAL, ESSEX<\/strong><\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The war memorial in Hadleigh, Essex was erected in 1922 and carved stone plaques around the sides contain the names of the 48 men of the parish who died during WWI. The base it stands on remembers those who died during WWII (although no names were added). It\u2019s quite an impressive structure, considering Hadleigh isn\u2019t a big place even now.<\/p>\n<p>I have been slowly researching each soldier names, tracing their family history and trying to find their connection to Hadleigh (ongoing).<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-embedded-content\" data-secret=\"j6isiAAL17\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/ghostofthedoll.co.uk\/tracingghosts\/war_memorials\/war-memorial-hadleigh-essex\/\">War Memorial | Hadleigh, Essex<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><iframe class=\"wp-embedded-content\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts\" security=\"restricted\" style=\"position: absolute; clip: rect(1px, 1px, 1px, 1px);\" title=\"&#8220;War Memorial | Hadleigh, Essex&#8221; &#8212; Tracing Ghosts\" src=\"https:\/\/ghostofthedoll.co.uk\/tracingghosts\/war_memorials\/war-memorial-hadleigh-essex\/embed\/#?secret=Qvx3vp6CbJ#?secret=j6isiAAL17\" data-secret=\"j6isiAAL17\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n ","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>These are my larger research projects which each span several pages.
