I received two messages from two different Ancestry members recently regarding a member of my paternal FULCHER family line and the maiden name of his wife, both wondering how I had come about it. I thought I had better take a look at see!<\/p>\n

My 4GGP’s John FULCHER<\/strong> & Ann GRUMMET<\/strong> (aka Crummett\/Crommett\/Grimmet) had four children that I know of, all born in Norwich, Norfolk, England:<\/p>\n

  1. John FULCHER – 1801-1808<\/li>\n
  2. Elizabeth FULCHER – 1804-1884 (my 3GGM, married James SMY in 1821)<\/li>\n
  3. Thomas FULCHER – 1807-?<\/li>\n
  4. William FULCHER – 1809-1858 (married Eliza\/Bridget CALLAGAN c.1840)<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    The person in question was William Fulcher<\/strong> b.1809 and his wife Eliza<\/strong> (aka Bridget<\/strong>), and how did I find out her maiden name was CALLAGHAN<\/strong>? Eliza is also recorded three times as Bridget<\/strong>, and once as Betsey<\/strong>, which added a little confusion to things at first but were all definitely the same person.<\/p>\n

    William Fulcher<\/strong> was born in November 1809 in Norwich, Norfolk, England. He joined the army in 1825 at age 15 where he served for 21 years as a private in the 77th Reg of Foot<\/strong>. He was stationed in Ireland at some point where he met his future wife Eliza (nee Bridget Callaghan). They had five children between 1841-1852 (the first two before they were married in 1845):<\/p>\n

    2. Elizabeth FULCHER<\/strong> – 1843-1908<\/li>\n
    3. William FULCHER<\/strong> – 1847-1885<\/li>\n
    4. Ann FULCHER<\/strong> – 1850-1908 (died in New Zealand)<\/li>\n
    5. Thomas FULCHER<\/strong> – 1852-1852<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      In the 1841<\/a> census, William & Betsey FULSHER<\/strong> (note spelling) are living as married in Horncastle<\/strong>, Lincolnshire, England. William\u2019s occupation is \u201cArmy<\/strong>\u201d and has an “N<\/em>” for “No<\/em>” in “Where Born<\/em>” as he was not born in the county of Lincolnshire. Eliza has an “I<\/em>” for Ireland<\/em>. They were the only two people within their household, but just 11 days later Eliza gave birth to their first child, MARY<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\r\n\t\t
