{"id":19131,"date":"2023-11-17T17:04:35","date_gmt":"2023-11-17T17:04:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ghostofthedoll.co.uk\/tracingghosts\/?p=19131"},"modified":"2023-11-17T17:04:35","modified_gmt":"2023-11-17T17:04:35","slug":"research-booklet-the-history-of-belfairs-farm-golf-course-leigh-on-sea-essex","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ghostofthedoll.co.uk\/tracingghosts\/research-booklet-the-history-of-belfairs-farm-golf-course-leigh-on-sea-essex\/","title":{"rendered":"Research Booklet ~ The History of Belfairs Farm &#038; Golf Course, Leigh-On-Sea, Essex"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">The fields at <strong>Belfairs Farm<\/strong> in <strong>Leigh, Essex<\/strong> were created by clearing woodland owned by <strong>Lady Olivia Bernard SPARROW<\/strong> between <strong>1804-1842<\/strong> and there is evidence to suggest there had been a farm there to manage the woods since the 13th century.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The land was originally part of the holdings of Leigh Manor, not changing until the death of Lady Sparrow in <strong>1863<\/strong> when her estates were sold and can be traced back through the family to\u00a0<strong>Richard RICH<\/strong>, 1st Earl of Warwick, who acquired it from\u00a0<strong>Henry CAREY<\/strong>, 1st Baron Hudson in the mid-16th century.<\/p>\n<p>This A5 booklet contains <strong>40 pages<\/strong> of fascinating information on each of the owners and occupiers of the farm during the 1800s, as well as that of <strong>Belfairs Lodge<\/strong> and <strong>Furzefield House<\/strong>, up to its subsequent sale and development into <strong>Belfairs Golf Course<\/strong> in the 1920s.
