They were the only two people living at that number.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Fenn Wynne S<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 3 Nov 1901 (age 38) \u2013 Married \u2013 Branch Manager Assurance<\/li>\n<li><strong>Fenn Frances F<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 9 Dec 1906 (age 33)- Married \u2013 Unpaid Domestic Duties<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Frances surname had <strong>Barratt<\/strong> written over it, and her birth date amended to 7-12-06. There were no more clues to her initial \u201cF\u201d, but now and \u201cL\u201d showed up too. It also implied that the name\u00a0<strong>Sansom<\/strong>\u00a0(\u201cS\u201d) was to do with her husband rather then her.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Wynne S Fenn<\/strong> + <strong>Frances F L Carson<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Jul-Sep 1931 &#8211; Wandsworth District (London)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I checked for any children between Wynne and Frances, but none showed up. Guessing that she remarried at some point after 1939 to a Mr Barratt, I looked that up too and found it in 1954.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>John Barratt<\/strong> + <strong>Frances F L Carson (or Fenn)<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Jul-Sep 1954 &#8211; Surrey Northern District (Surrey)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The next thing to do was find her\u00a0<strong>birth<\/strong>\u00a0record. The England and Wales birth index had two entries, but neither seemed right. The Irish birth index had three entries, one of which imitatively stood out:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Frances\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Flower Lambert\u00a0Carson<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 Jan-Mar 1907 \u2013 Dublin South<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I then checked out the\u00a0<strong>death<\/strong>\u00a0index for \u201cFrances Barratt\u201d born 1906 +\/- 2y I came up with two matches, one of which tied in with the Frances above nicely:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Frances\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Flower L\u00a0Barratt<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Born 9 Dec 1906<\/li>\n<li>Death Registered: Oct-Dec 1982 \u2013 Kingston upon Thames (Greater London)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I did another search in the\u00a0<strong>probate<\/strong>\u00a0records and found her again:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Frances Flower Lambert Barratt<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Died 6 Nov 1982 \u2013 Richmond, Surrey<\/li>\n<li><em>\u201c<\/em><em>Frances Flower Lambert Barratt\u00a0o<\/em><em>f The Cottage 47 Kings Road Richmond Surrey died 6 November 1982 Probate London 17 January \u00a314851\u2033<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I also checked for Wynne\u2019s birth and death records, plus any further marriages:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Birth:\u00a0<strong>Wynne Sansom Fenn<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013\u00a0Oct-Dec 1901 \u2013 Huntington District (mother maiden name Wynne)<\/li>\n<li>2nd Marriage:\u00a0<strong>Wynne S Fenn\u00a0<\/strong>&amp;\u00a0<strong>Margaret M Loring \u2013\u00a0<\/strong>Apr-Jun 1954 \u2013 Bromley District (Kent)<\/li>\n<li>Death:\u00a0<strong>Wynne\u00a0<\/strong><em><strong>Sampson<\/strong><\/em><strong>\u00a0Fenn<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 (born) 2 Nov 1901 \u2013 (death registered) Feb 1989 \u2013 West Oxfordshire District<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Wynne showed easily in census matches for census matches in 1911, but nothing came up for Frances (in either Ireland or England), so decided to trace as many records as I could find for her life and leave it at that.<\/p>\n<p>Electoral info for Wynne &amp; Frances Fenn (for anywhere up to 1954 when they both remarried):<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>1932-1933<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 2 Ashley Court, Ashley Road, Epsom, Surrey<\/li>\n<li><strong>1935<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 62a Fitz George Avenue, Hammersmith, London<\/li>\n<li><strong>1939<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 51 Fitz George Avenue, Hammersmith, London<\/li>\n<li><strong>1945-1946<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 Sweet Briar Cottage, Lower Farm Road, Reigate, Surrey<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I can\u2019t find any electoral info for them after his, but found Wynne in the phone book:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>1949-1954<\/strong> \u2013 47 Kings Road, Richmond, Surrey<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>47 Kings Road<\/strong>\u00a0rang a bell, as it is the address given on Frances\u2019s probate record. From 1954 onwards, I looked for her as Frances Barratt in electoral records, and came up with phone records too:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>1957-1982<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 47 Kings Road, Richmond, Surrey (also \u201cThe Cottage\u201d, same address)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This shows that Frances lived at the same address until she died in 1982, from at least 1949 onwards. I then realised that the phone records from 1957-82 were all in Frances\u2019s name, rather than her second husbands name (John Barratt), so began to wonder where he was. I only found two electoral entries for Frances Barratt (1964-65, earlier ones for Richmond aren\u2019t online yet), but John wasn\u2019t living with her. Where was he? Had he died, or had they divorced? I tried to find reference to him in the Richmond area prior to 1957, but came up empty handed so decided to leave him as a mystery.<\/p>\n<p>Now with a little more knowledge of Frances, I decided to make one last attempt to find her parents before calling it a day. I took another look through the Ancestry family tree hints given by Family Tree Maker (which shows different results than when searching directly on Ancestry), and found a\u00a0Flower Carson\u00a0who died c.1980 was listed. I clicked on it and the owner of the tree had her parents as\u00a0<strong>Walter<\/strong> <strong>Carson and Frances<\/strong> (no maiden name or any dates were included). Walter\u2019s parents were listed and the surname LAMBERT showed up.<\/p>\n<p>Armed with this new information, and being the closest I had came to finding Frances\u2019s parents, I decided to research Walter Carson for more information and see if it tied in anywhere. Probate to The Public Trustee<\/li>\n<li>Probate:\u00a0<strong>Frances Elizabeth<\/strong><strong>\u00a0Carson<\/strong>\u00a0of Stanley House 47 Kings Road, widow, died 10 Jul 1953. Probate to The Public Trustee and\u00a0<strong>Frances Flower Lambert Fenn<\/strong>\u00a0single woman.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Although it doesn\u2019t conclusively prove that Frances is the daughter of Walter &amp; Frances E, it looked pretty good so felt confidant in adding them into the tree for further research.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Walter Peter Carson<\/strong>\u00a0was born 09 Jul 1855 in Dublin, Ireland to\u00a0<strong>Edward Henry Carson<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>Isalella Lambert<\/strong>. Lambert was Frances\u2019s second middle names.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Walter Peter Carson<\/strong>\u00a0married\u00a0<strong>Frances Elizabeth Boustead<\/strong>\u00a0in 6th June 1888 in Christ Church, Ahmednagar, Bombay, India.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Frances Elizabeth Boustead<\/strong>\u00a0was born 15 Apr 1867 in Karachi, Maharashtra, India to\u00a0<strong>Robinson Boustead<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>Mary Jane Flower<\/strong>. They had one child, Lancelot Errington (1st cousin to Frances) born 1889 in Bombay, who went on to be a Captain in the Royal Scots. Lancelot\u2019s son, Sir Lance Errington (1917-2011), was a senior civil servant.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">Her second husband,\u00a0<strong>Dr. Frank Thorpe Porter Newell<\/strong>, was a Fellow of Royal College of Surgeons. They had no children. He served in the Galway Militia as Captain in the 11th Regt from 1814 and later the Connaught Rangers. He was also a Justice for the Peace for County Galway.<\/p>\n<p>Peter and Eleanor had eleven children together, and it appears she died in childbirth in 1828 as her death date is the same as her last child\u2019s birth date. It all starts out quite plainly; getting married a few days after his nineteenth birthday, and four children born between 1862-68. Then, in 1881, he is living on his own (marked as married) with a new two month old daughter and a visitor called Emma PENNYFATHER . I found his wife Annie and their four children living with her mother in Wales. And then I found a\u00a0<strong>Petition for Dissolution of Marriage<\/strong>\u00a0by Stubbs Lambert, filed 13 Nov 1882. It gives their marriage date, the names of their four children (not five), and this little tit bit:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 80px;\"><em>\u201cOn the 26th day of March 1880 the said Annie Jane Lambert at the Duke of York Public House Chester in the county of Chester committed\u00a0adultery with James Watson.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">So, if Stubbs and Annie only had four children, who\u2019s daughter was Ethel? A quick look up shows Ethel Lambert\u2019s mothers maiden name was PENNYFATHER, the same as Stubbs\u2019s visitor! Being two months old in the 1881 census would make her birthday around the beginning of Feb, meaning she would have been conceived around May 1880, just after Annie\u2019s infidelity in the Duke of York. So they were both at it.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">Fast forward ten years to 1891 and Stubbs was living with new wife Esther (I presume the name \u201cEmma\u201d was wrong in the 1881 census and they are the same woman), daughter Ethel age 10, and son Stanley age 6 (mothers maiden name also PENNYFATHER). I found no marriage for Stubbs and Esther during 1881-91.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">What of Annie in 1891? She was much harder to trace, finding her eventually by her daughter Mary. In 1891 she is the wife of Isaac Woodall, a mariner. Her name is listed as \u201cAlum I Woodall\u201d age 44, living with daughter Mary Lambert age 20, son Henry Lambert age 19, daughter Bessie Woodall age 9, and son Isaac Woodall age 1. Annie would have been about 52 not 44, Mary about 23\/24 not 20, and Henry, aka Stubbs Jnr., 22 not 19 born in Middlesex not Wales. I haven\u2019t found a birth record for Bessie at all, and Isaac Jnr. was 2 not 1 (mothers maiden name Gunn on birth index \u2013 there was also another child who died young). The whole household is recorded slightly wrong, but it is definitely them. I found no marriage record for Annie and Isaac during 1881-91 either.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">In 1901, Stubbs is now listed as Stanley Lambert, with wife Esther, daughter Ethel and son Stanley. Annie is listed as Lena Woodall wife age 56, with husband Isaac and daughter Annie age 4. Good going for a woman who was actually more like 62 than 56! Perhaps she was Bessie\u2019s daughter?<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">Stubbs Lambert died 11th July 1908. His probate states \u201c<em>administration to Annie Jane Lambert widow<\/em>\u201c, which implies they never got divorced, and why no second marriage record can be found for him.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">In 1911, Annie is listed as Annie Lambert \u201crelation\u201d to the head of the household, Isaac Woodall. They are both listed as \u201cwidow\u201d. Her age is now correct at 72. Annie Kathleen Woodall \u201crelation\u201d aged 15 is also living in the household. Next to Annie Lambert is \u201c4 children born\/still living none died\u201d, and for Isaac, \u201c1 born alive\/still living and 2 died\u201d. Annie Lambert has \u201caunt\u201d written in pencil, as does Annie K Woodall. Two other girls are in the household, both as \u201crelation\u201d with \u201cniece\u201d handwritten in. Edith May Watt age 14 is Annie\u2019s granddaughter via her daughter Mary, the other (Annie Laura Griffith age 4) I have yet to identify.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">In 1915, Annie Lambert and Isaac Woodall finally marry, now in their seventies. I found two more marriages for Henry, both stating he was a widow. Then I found reference to a W. H. Flower dying at the Court House in Bombay age 29 in 1838 and strongly suspect that was him.<\/p>\n<p>In 1851, his two eldest daughters (one being Frances\u2019s grandmother Mary) were described as having an \u201callowance from an adopted father\u201d as their occupations on the census return. They were visiting Alfred Burder and his wife Sarah (nee Perry) with their adopted fathers uncle, Thomas Walter Perry (Sarah&#8217;s father).<\/p>\n<p>In 1861, Mary was living with the said adopted father,\u00a0<strong>Oswald William Ketterer<\/strong>. His probate records show he was formerly of Bombay, and in 1853 was recorded as a Deputy of the Crown Court in the Bombay Supreme Court of Judicature register. I found a reference to a William Henry Flower as a Court Keeper in a book of Special Reports of the Indian Law Commissioners for Bombay 1835, so would guess that was how they knew each other.<\/p>\n<p>Sisters Fanny and Mary are recorded travelling from Southampton to Bombay with Mr Ketterer in 1855, a couple of years before Fanny got married. When Mr Ketterer died in 1861 (after Fanny was married but before Mary was married), his probate stated:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em>&#8220;The will of Oswald William Ketterer formerly of Bombay in the East Indies but late of Nutley Villa Torquay Devon Esquire deceased who died 12 July 1861 at Nutley Villa aforesaid was proved at the Principal Registry by the oaths of William Robert Perry of Walbrook House Walbrook in the city of London Esquire and William John Perry of 20-1\/2 Warwick Lane in the said city Esquire two of the executors. Effects under \u00a38000. Resworn at the Stamp Office October 1861 under \u00a310,000.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em>&#8220;&#8230;executed his will whilst out in India. The executors nominated are [&#8230;] his adopted daughter <strong>Mary Jane Flower<\/strong> [&#8230;] Mr Ketterer has disposed of his property in the following manner &#8211; making provisions for his two adopted daughters: to the eldest [Fanny] he has bequeathed, besides other legacies, the sum of \u00a32,000, and to the youngest [Mary] an annuity of \u00a3200, with power of disposition over \u00a32,000 [&#8230;]&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>He makes no mention of any of his own children, just his uncle Thomas Walter Perry (his mothers brother), two cousins (William Robert Perry and John Perry), godchildren and four sisters.<\/p>\n<p>At no point is there any mention of Fanny &amp; Mary&#8217;s older brother Henry in relation to Mr Ketterer so perhaps he was looked after elsewhere when their parent died.
