Sky Dancers :: Similar & Knockoffs

"They really dance and fly in the air!"

Sky Dancers were produced by Galoob from 1994-2000 when they were recalled for causing various injuries. They were a large series of ballerina-style dolls with foam wings under their arms, plus a "launcher" or stand. When the string on the launcher was pulled the doll would spin up and away with her wings opening up to catch flight. There was also a 27 episode animation series in 1996-97.

They were sold in US, Japan, UK and other countries in Europe. In Italy they were produced by GIG (Ballerine Volanti), and Japan by Tsukuda Original (Fairy Princess). Japan also had some colour variations.

The line was re-issued in 2005, and again in 2013. There were a few "knockoff" brands too.

Similar & Knockoffs

This is where I will list any similar or "knockoff" Sky Dancer lines I find!

Fantasy Flyers: Celestial Princess [Lanard]

This line was produced by Lanard between 1995-97 and have found three sets of four dolls. The dolls had four wings and a castle launcher. See Fantasy Flyers for more details.

Lanard re-used the base mould and four-wing design for their Fairykins Fanatasy Flyers set in 2013.

Flying Sweeties [Simba]

Flying Sweeties were produced by Simba, but can't find a date on the back packaging. I'm not sure the batman type character and launcher really fit the name and packaging!

Sailor Moon: Principesse Magiche Volanti [Giochi Preziosi]

In 1995, Giochi Preziosi produced five doll/launcher sets and one doll/pegasus set for sale in Italy.

Star Wonders [Placo Toys]

"Star Wonders are teenage girls searching for adventure. Every beautiful Star Wonder is given the magical power to fly. Unfolding thier powerful wings, Star Wonders travel across galazies to shimmering moons and glittering stars, light years away. The Adventures of the Star Wonders are endless as they travel across the vast universe."

Star Wonders were produced by Placo Toys in 1995 and used the same launcher moulds as the Sailor Moon set above. The dolls were the same too, apart from the heads.

Sailormoon ~ Fly Dancer

This line were knockoff Sailor Moon dolls.

Sailormoon ~ Beauty Warrior Fly Dancer

Their wing patterns look quite similar to Sky Dancers.

Fly Angel [Agglo]

This doll was produced by Agglo in 1997, and recalled due to causing injury in 1998.
