Baby Beans :: Individual Dolls

"Soft as a baby's bottom!"

Baby Beans were produced by Mattel from 1970-1984. They were soft bodied baby dolls stuffed with polystyrene bean bag balls, and plastic heads. Meritus took over production from 1991-98 with their own line, and Estrela had their own concurrent line to Mattel in Brazil during the 1970-80's and again in 2011-12. They were very popular, hence the sheer amount of them all over the world! Individual Baby Beans

There were four individual dolls produced.

  • Cuddly Beans
  • Cry Baby Beans
  • Biffy Beans
  • Jeans Beans

Cuddly Beans

Cuddly Beans was produced in 1971 and was slightly larger than the other Baby Beans at about 15 inches high and had red hair. Cuddly Beans packaging used a different logo.

Cry Baby Beans

Cry Baby Beans was produced in 1972 and measured about 12 inches high. She had tear ducts in her eyes and when she drank from the bottle she came with, the liquid travelled through a hole in her mouth up to her eyes via tubes inside her head so she looked like she was crying.

Biffy Beans

Biffy Beans was produced in 1970.

Brazilian Variation

Biffy was also produced by Estrela in Brazil where he was called Tostãozinho. He was made with Booful Bean's face and had a slightly different striped top. He also had buttons on his dungarees. I've found two suble variations of button and mouth colour.

  • Biffy Beans - Brazilian Variation 2

Jean Beans

Jeans Beans was produced in 1974. There were two sublte variations of his clothing; one had tan coloured feet and the other had dark brown feet. The rainbow patch on his jacket was just glued on, so quite often fell off. The most common version of this doll had fabric hands, but it was also produced with plastic hands (rare).
